Hi community,

Have you ever wondered what’s the eating etiquette in Romania? This discussion topic will answer your curiosities, such as what time do Romanian people have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and what we typically have for food.

Breakfast (Mic Dejun)

In Romania, breakfast is usually a light affair, starting around 7-8 AM, 9-10 the latest. It is also common for people to skip breakfast, especially if they need to rush in the morning. Common options include eggs, bread, ham and cheese, the sweet alternative being bread with butter and jam, or porridge with fresh fruits. And let's not forget the coffee—strong and rich, often with only a splash of milk, it’s a morning staple.

Lunch (Prânz)

Lunch is typically enjoyed between 12 PM and 2 PM. Romanians often start with a soup, like the beloved "ciorbă". The main course might be "sarmale" (cabbage rolls filled with minced meat and rice), "mici" (grilled sausages), or "tocană" (a savory stew). Side dishes often feature polenta, potatoes, or fresh salads. However, these are more traditional option - the average Romanian person might opt for a salad, or some meat with potatoes.

Dinner (Cină)

Our dinner time is highly influenced by our Central and Eastern European neighbors, as we usually serve it around 7-8 PM. Dinner is typically lighter than lunch but still satisfying. It might be a simple meal of grilled meat or fish with vegetables, or a big salad. Some might enjoy "mămăligă" (polenta) with cheese and sour cream.

What about you? What time do you have breakfast, or dinner? And what do you usually eat? We’d love to learn more about your country, so let us know in the comments!
