Hello Everyone

Hope you are all having a great start to your week. Since summer has officially begun, I wanted to discuss the weather, from rain to rainbows, and see if you can fill out a few vocabulary exercises.

SO talking about the weather is a common conversation topic in any language. In Danish, there are specific words and phrases used to describe different weather conditions.

Here are some key terms you should know:

  • Regn (rain)

  • Sol (sun)

  • Sne (snow)

  • Skyer (clouds)

  • Vind (wind)

  • Torden (thunder)

  • Lyn (lightning)

  • Regnbue (rainbow)

  • Vejret (the weather)

  • Varm (warm)

  • Kold (cold)

  • Grå (grey)

  • Klar (clear)

Exercise 1: Fill in the Blanks

Complete the sentences with the correct weather term.

  1. I dag er det ________. (sunny)

  1. Der er mange ________ på himlen. (clouds)

  1. Om vinteren falder der ________. (snow)

  1. Når det lyner og tordner, er der ________ og ________. (lightning and thunder)

  1. Efter regnen, så vi en smuk ________. (rainbow)

Exercise 2: Describe the Weather

Describe the weather in Danish for the following scenarios:

  1. It is raining and windy.

  1. The sky is clear and the sun is shining.

  1. It is snowing and cold.

  1. There is a thunderstorm with lightning.

  1. It is cloudy and grey.

Exercise 3: Weather Dialogues

Create a short dialogue with a partner or an imaginary colleague about the weather. Use the vocabulary and phrases you have learned. Look below for an example on what a dialogue about the weather could look like:

Example Dialogue:

  • Person A: Hvordan er vejret i dag? (How is the weather today?)

  • Person B: Det er solrigt, men der er også nogle skyer. (It’s sunny, but there are also some clouds.)

  • Person A: Perfekt til en gåtur! (Perfect for a walk!)

  • Person B: Ja, lad os gå ud og nyde solen. (Yes, let’s go out and enjoy the sun.)

Exercise 4: Weather Report

Write a short weather report in Danish for a fictional day. Use at least five different weather terms. Please write this report in the comment section below or in a private message to me and we can review it together.

Example: I dag er vejret meget forskelligt. Om morgenen er det solrigt og varmt, men om eftermiddagen kommer der skyer og regn. Hen mod aftenen bliver det koldt, og der er mulighed for sne. I løbet af natten vil der være torden og lyn. Måske ser vi en regnbue i morgen tidlig.

I look forward to hearing your weather report in Danish!
