A Guide to Parks and Summer Gardens in Bucharest

If you are an Erasmus+ or ESC mobility student looking for relaxing (or adventurous) spots to visit in Bucharest, especially during this hot season, keep reading! We have prepared a blog post with some of the most beautiful parks and summer gardens that provide serene escapes for locals and visitors like you.

Whether you're looking to take a relaxed walk, enjoy a picnic with your new mobility friends, or admire nature, Bucharest's green spaces offer something for everyone. Here’s a guide to explore them.

1. Herăstrău Park (King Michael I Park)
Location: Northern Bucharest

Herăstrău Park, officially known as King Michael I Park, is the largest park in Bucharest, spanning over 187 hectares. Located around the Herăstrău Lake, this park is a favourite among locals and tourists.

Here, you can either rent a boat and explore the lake with paddle boats or rowboats, visit the Village Museum, where you will discover the traditional Romanian village life, rent a bike to make sure you cover as much as possible of the park or make a picnic at the beautiful Japanese Garden.

2. Cişmigiu Gardens
Location: Central Bucharest

As the oldest park in Bucharest, dating back to 1847, Cişmigiu Gardens can be best described as a peaceful getaway in the middle of the city. Similar to Herăstrău Park, you can rent a boat on the lake, or simply relax and admire the beautiful flowers.

3. Botanical Garden
Location: Western Bucharest

Bucharest's Botanical Garden, officially known as Dimitrie Brândză Botanical Garden, is a paradise for anyone who loves flowers. Here, you can explore exotic plants and succulents in the garden’s impressive greenhouses and enjoy different flowers in bloom depending on the season, from tulips in spring to chrysanthemums in autumn.

4. Carol Park
Location: South-central Bucharest

Carol Park, also known as Liberty Park, is renowned for its impressive monuments and historical significance. Created in 1906, the park covers around 36 hectares and is named after King Carol I of Romania. You will find a mausoleum dedicated to the Unknown Soldier that offers a glimpse into Romania's past and an open-air theatre that hosts concerts and events.

5. Icoanei Garden
Location: Central Bucharest

Icoanei Garden is a small, yet picturesque park located in one of Bucharest’s most charming neighborhoods. It's the perfect spot for a quiet afternoon, with lots of cafes and bistros in the surrounding area.

6. Tineretului Park
Location: Southern Bucharest

Although smaller, you will find here an adventure park with climbing and zip-lining activities. This brings us to the next category, adventure parks!

7. Comana Adventure Park
Location: Comana, Giurgiu (relatively close to Bucharest)

This one is for adventure lovers! You will find a zip line, multiple trails (for beginners and pros), and a lake near which you can make a picnic.

8. Edenland Park
Location: Balotesti, Cantonului Street 12 (20 minutes from Bucharest)

If you want to either relax or try a lot of activities, this place is for you! You can sleep in a treehouse, ride a bike, go horse-riding, try paintball, or be adventurous and try the tree trails similar to Comana Adventure Park!

I hope I covered all the essential summer spots for you to visit in Bucharest! As an Erasmus+ or ESC mobility student in Romania, a park is an ideal place to relax, hang out with your friends or make new ones. You can also take the initiative and organize a picnic with all your mobility friends! Let me know how it went :)
