Dear Community,
I know that all eyes this month are on Paris as it is hosting the Olympic games. And of course, everyone is rooting for their country's athletes. But I'm excited to kick off a discussion about Latvian athletes and their participation in the Olympics! Paris is a special place for Latvian participants because the first time Latvia competed as an independent nation was in the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics. Latvians have excelled in various disciplines, bringing home numerous medals and creating unforgettable moments. But who do we have to keep an eye on in Paris this year?
Of course, we all are keeping our fingers crossed for our basketball 3x3 players who already received gold medals in the last Olympic games in Tokyo. But there are a lot of Latvian participants also in disciplines like javelin throwing, running, swimming, volleyball, tennis, shooting, and many more. In total Latvia will be represented by 29 athletes in 14 disciplines at the Paris Olympics.
And of course, we are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping some medals will be brought back to Latvia.
