World Humanitarian Day, celebrated each year on August 19, recognizes the dedication and sacrifices of humanitarian workers who risk their lives to offer vital assistance to people in crisis. The United Nations established the day in 2009 to honor those impacted by the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which resulted in 22 deaths, including that of UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello.

This day serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for humanitarian efforts worldwide and the bravery of those who step into dangerous situations to provide help. Each year, World Humanitarian Day focuses on a particular theme, aiming to raise awareness and gather support for pressing global issues like conflicts, natural disasters, and pandemics.
