Filwaqt li s-suppożizzjonijiet dwar il-manneriżmi ta ’ċerti kulturi huma xi ħaġa li ġeneralment in-nies għandhom iżommu lura, hemm xi sterjotipi li n-nies li jiffurmaw parti minn dawk il-komunitajiet jirrikonoxxu u jħaddnu. Wieħed minn dawn l-isterjotipi għall-Maltin huwa li l-Maltin iħobbu l-ikel tagħhom. Dan huwa assolutament minnu! U li tinnaviga triqtek billi tiddeskrivi l-ikel bil-Malti hija ħtieġa assoluta f’ Malta, speċjalment jekk tkun qed tfittex li tipprova ikel Malti awtentiku kif suppost u li tagħmel konnessjonijiet ma ’nies li jitkellmu bil-lingwa iżda li forsi mhumiex midħla ta’ ilsna oħra bħall-Ingliż.

Fil-blog post tal-lum se nkunu qed nesploraw xi ingredjenti prinċipali fil-kċina Maltija, b ’mod partikolari li niffokaw fuq ikel li l-poplu Malti jiekol b’ mod partikolari fis-sajf.

Ġelat

Jekk taf ftit bit-Taljan jew għandek sinna ħelwa, probabbli diġa ’taf x’ inhi din. Ġelt jew “ġelat” huwa wieħed mill-ikel primarju li se ssib Maltin jieklu fis-sajf. Meta t-temperaturi jitilgħu għal celcisus ta’ 40 grad, trid issib mod kif tkessaħ u ġelat – anki jekk jista ’ma jkunx l-aktar wieħed b’ saħħtu mill-għażliet – huwa favorit kemm għan-nies Maltin kif ukoll għal dawk li jżuru l-gżira.

Majjal
Dan l-ikel mhux għal xi ħadd li hu vegan jew veġetarjan. Fiż-żmien tas-sajf, in-nies Maltin ta ’spiss jiltaqgħu għal laqgħat rilassati, u matul dawn il-laqgħat, spiss issib gruppi li jilmħu fuq xorb kiesaħ, t-shirts off, miġburin maġenb nar f’ għalqa waqt li ħanżir ikun inkaljat. Dawn l-avvenimenti jissejħu “majjalati”, u jissarrfu bħala “xiwi tal-ħnieżer”. Komunement moqdi bil - “patata” (patata) bil - “Kosbor” (żerriegħa tal-bużbież), il - “qamħirrum” (qamħ) u l - “basal” (basal), dan huwa avveniment staple summer għall-komunitajiet Maltin.

Orzata

L-orzata mhix għall-ħass ħażin tal-qalb u mhix ikel, tassew. Hija xarba. Din ix-xarba diviżiva hija ħtieġa bit-togħma tal-lewż għall-jiem li jqattgħu fil-bajja. Simili għall - “orcata” Spanjola, din ix-xarba spiss tiġi kkunsmata mill-ġenerazzjoni l-antika, u normalment titgawda f ’tazza bi ftit kubi tas-silġ jew dritt mill-flixkun.

Dulliegħ

Dan mhux eżattament platt, imma jista ’jkun ukoll għall-Maltin. Id-dulliegħ ta’ spiss jitqatta ’u jitqiegħed f’ kaxxi tal-ġelat tal-plastik użati mill-ġdid u jittella ’lejn il-bajja f’ boroż aktar friski. Jekk tara grupp ta ’Maltin sejrin lejn il-bajja kullimkien fid-dinja, żgur li ssib dulliegħa ħelwa lesta għall-ikel.

Whilst making assumptions about the mannerisms of certain cultures is something that people should generally hold back on, there are some stereotypes which the people forming part of those communities acknowledge and embrace. One of these stereotypes for Maltese people is that Maltese persons love their food. This is absolutely true! And navigating your way through describing food in Maltese is an absolute necessity in Malta, especially if you’re looking to try proper authentic Maltese food and to make connections with people who speak the language but who perhaps aren’t familiar with other tongues such as English.

In today’s blog post we will be exploring some staple ingredients in Maltese cuisine, particularly focusing on foods that Maltese people particularly eat in the summer.

Ġelat

If you know a little bit of Italian or have a sweet tooth, you probably already know what this is. Ġelt or “ice cream” is one of the primary foods that you will find Maltese people eating in summer. When temperatures rise to a sweltering 40 degrees celcisus, you just have to find a way to cool off and an ice cream – even though it might not be the healthiest of choices – is a favourite for both Maltese people and visitors to the island alike.

Majjal

This food is not for anyone who is vegan or vegetarian. In the summer time, Maltese people often meet for relaxed gatherings, and during these gatherings, you’ll often find groups sipping on cold drinks, t-shirts off, gathered around next to a fire in a field whilst a pig is roasted. These events are called “majjalati”, and translates as a “pig roast”. Commonly served with “patata” (potato) with “kosbor” (fennel seeds), “qamħirrum” (corn) and “basal” (onions), this is a staple summer event for Maltese communities.

Orzata

Orzata is not for the faint of heart and it isn’t a food, really. It’s a drink. This divisive drink is an almond flavoured necessity for days spent at the beach. Similar to the Spanish “orcata”, this drink is often consumed by the older generation, and is usually enjoyed in a glass with a few ice cubes or straight from the bottle.

Dulliegħ

This isn’t exactly a dish, but it might as well be for Maltese people. Watermelon’s are often sliced and put into reused plastic ice cream boxes and hauled to the beach in cooler bags. If you see a group of Maltese people going to the beach anywhere in the world, you’re sure to find a sweet dulliegħa ready for eating.
