Once Upon A Time There Was Mikko

Once upon a time there was a man named Mikko. Mikko wasn't quite the sharpest pen in the pencil case. Mikko lived in a small village at the edge of the forest, and Mikko usually always had no money (Matti kukkarossa). One fine day, Mikko was invited by a lady of a large mansion in the area, because she needed help in the kitchen for her big party.

When Mikko arrived at the mansion, he immediately took action according to the hostess's instructions. Deer meat had been reserved for the celebration of the mansion to be prepared as a feast. Unfortunately, Mikko didn't really know how to heed the advice, so he made a big mistake, he started frying the deer meat on a fire that was way too hot! Before the guests could even lick their lips, Miko's fried meat burned into coal (palaa poroksi) And of course, the end result was absolutely terrible, literally and figuratively. There was quite a ruckus in the kitchen of the mansion's mistress, because the deer meat was the highlight of the feast, and it had been bought in copious amounts!

The mistress of the mansion scolded Mikko right away and chased him out of the kitchen. Shoo! Mikko, very disappointed, returned home on the milk train. All the way, Mikko wondered how everything could have gone so wrong. Secretly, however, he laughed a little inside his head. The whole situation was also terribly funny – the deer had really been sold in large amounts, and now it had all turned into a charred lump.

After getting home, Mikko thought that there was something to learn from this day too. From now on, he decided to always listen more carefully to the advice of others and to think carefully in advance about how things should be done. When the evening finally arrived, Mikko thought to himself that even though the day had been unlucky in many ways, now it was at least done and dusted.

The villagers laughed at Mikko's story for a long time, and he himself laughed along - even though he knew very well that sometimes crying comes from prolonged joy. Fortunately, that didn't happen with these laughs.
