Hello Domagoj, could you introduce yourself in a few sentences for the OLS?
I’m a photographer, a member of the Croatian Society of Fine Artists (HDLU) and the Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts (ULUPUH), a travel blogger, and the owner of the Croatian Nomad Digital Marketing Agency.
As a travel blogger/photographer, how would you say that travel changed your perspective on the world?
Travel has definitely broadened my perspective on different cultures, lifestyles, and viewpoints. Each journey reminds me how vast and diverse the world is, and it has made me more open-minded and accepting of differences.

What's the most unexpected or surprising thing you've learned on your travels?
Tolerance, patience, and gratitude. These are values that I keep rediscovering, as every new culture brings new lessons.
What are some of the biggest challenges you face?
Some of the biggest challenges come down to adapting to different environments and sometimes dealing with unpredictable travel conditions, especially when you’re relying on public transportation in places with less established infrastructure.
Solo travel or group adventures? Why?
Always in a group, but not a big one. For me, travel is about shared experiences, and I simply prefer not to travel alone.

Pack light or overpack? Spill your secrets!
I feel like I bring less and less every time I travel. You realize there’s no need to overdo it—if you’re missing something, you can always find it on the road.
What's one travel essential you never leave home without (besides the obvious passport)?
My phone, because it has become an all-in-one tool for maps, photography, notes, and communication.
What are some misconceptions people have about the places you visit?
One common misconception is that some places are either too dangerous or too poor to be worth visiting. In reality, every place has its beauty and unique experiences to offer if you keep an open mind.

If you could recommend one underrated destination, where would it be and why?
Poland has been a pleasant surprise for me over the past few years. Its history, food, and hospitality make it a fascinating destination.
And one in Croatia?
Slavonia. It’s often overlooked, but it has a rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality that shouldn’t be missed.
We know it’s impossible to choose, but what was your favourite trip until now?
Costa Rica was a favourite. Its nature, biodiversity, and relaxed atmosphere were unforgettable.

Sand enthusiast or city explorer? Tell us about your ideal vacation.
I’m all about a combination! I can’t imagine lying on the beach for a whole week, but a full week of city exploring is also a lot. A mix of both is ideal.
Have you ever encountered any language barriers on your travels? How did you overcome them?
At the start of my travels, this was one of my biggest fears, but it turned out to be completely unfounded. There’s always a way to communicate, whether through gestures, translation apps, or simply by trying to learn a few words in the local language.

If somebody wanted to learn Croatian, what do you believe is the best way?
Move to one of our islands for a while. You’d probably never want to leave afterward!
Have you ever gotten lost in a way that turned into a positive experience?
Absolutely! Getting lost has often led me to discover hidden spots that I might have missed otherwise, and some of those detours have turned into my best memories.
What are your favourite spots in Croatia?
Dubrovnik and its surrounding islands, the Plitvice Lakes, and the small villages along the Adriatic coast.
What do you particularly like about Croatian culture?
The sense of community and the tradition of gathering around food and conversation are particularly close to my heart.

What would you like Croatia to be perceived as a destination?
I’d love for Croatia to be known not only for its beautiful coast but also for its culture, history, and diversity in landscapes.
Describe Croatian food to a stranger! What to try?
Croatian cuisine is a blend of Mediterranean and Central European influences. Some must-try dishes are "peka" (a traditional baked dish), "štrukli" (a pastry with cheese), and "sarma" (cabbage rolls).
Do you prefer luxury accommodations or budget hostels? Why?
It depends on the destination and the purpose of the trip, but usually, I go for something in between. Comfort is important, but for me, the experience is more about the destination itself than the accommodation.

Are you a planner or a spontaneous traveler? How do you approach your trips?
I like to have a rough plan, but I leave room for spontaneity. Some of the best experiences come from unplanned moments!
What advice would you give to someone who's just starting to explore the world?
Be open to new experiences, don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, and take every opportunity to learn from the people and places you visit.
Do you offer guided tours in Croatia, and where can people find you?
Yes, I occasionally organize guided photography tours. You can find me and my work on my website or through my social media channels.

And for the end, your favourite Croatian word, expression, or phrase?
