When you start learning a new language, everyday expressions are your best friend. Here are some common phrases in Bulgarian that you’ll hear and use regularly:
Greetings
Здравей! / Здрасти! (Zdravey / Zdrasti) – Hello (formal/informal)
Добро утро! (Dobro utro) - Good morning!
Добър ден! (Dobār den) – Good day!
Добър вечер! (Dobār vecher) – Good evening!
До скоро! (Do skoro) – See you soon!
Лека нощ! (Leka nosht) - Good night!
Polite Phrases
Благодаря! (Blagodarya) – Thank you!
Моля! (Molya) – Please / You’re welcome!
Извинете! (Izvinete) – Excuse me!
Няма проблем (Nyama problem) – No problem
Съжалявам (Sazhalyavam) - Sorry
Introducing Yourself
Как се казваш? (Kak se kazvash?) – What’s your name? (informal)
Казвам се [Мария]. (Kazvam se Mariya.) – My name is Maria.
Приятно ми е да се запознаем. (Priyatno mi e da se zapoznaem.) - Nice to meet you.
Как си? (Kak si?) - How are you?
Благодаря, добре! А ти? (Blagodarya, dobre! A ti?) - I am fine, thanks! And you?
Откъде си? (Otkāde si?) – Where are you from? (informal)
От Испания съм. (Ot Ispaniya sām.) – I’m from Spain.
Да (Da) - Yes.
Не (Ne) - No.

Try greeting a Bulgarian friend or shopkeeper using these expressions. Bulgarians appreciate even small efforts from a foreigner to speak their language!
