For Erasmus participants and members of the Erasmus Solidarity Corps, being bilingual (or multilingual) offers significant benefits during your international experience. Whether you’re studying abroad, volunteering, or working in a new country, speaking more than one language enhances your ability to adapt to new environments and connect with people from different cultures.

Bilingualism opens up better communication opportunities, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in local cultures, make meaningful friendships, and navigate day-to-day tasks with ease. It also strengthens your problem-solving and multitasking skills, making it easier to switch between languages and think in different ways. Plus, having a second (or third) language on your CV can increase your job prospects in an increasingly globalized job market.

How has being bilingual helped you during your Erasmus experience? Have you noticed any advantages when engaging with local communities or fellow international students?
