Hey, community!

A long weekend is just around the corner!

You can enjoy three days off as the country celebrates its Liberation Day on March 3rd. For you, Erasmus students and European Solidarity Corps volunteers, this is a great opportunity to have some free time and explore the Bulgarian culture. You can also take part in the celebrations by attending official ceremonies, visiting historical sites, or joining local events.

March 3rd marks Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman rule in 1878, following the Russo-Turkish War. The day is honoured with official ceremonies, military parades, and festive events across the country. The most significant celebrations take place in Sofia, where the President and other officials participate in a ceremony at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, and on Shipka Peak, where people gather to pay tribute to the heroes of the war. Many towns also hold torch-lit processions, reenactments, and concerts, making it a unique cultural experience for anyone interested in Bulgaria’s history.

If you visit any of the events, make sure to take some photos and share with us in the comments below.

Enjoy!
