Hello Everyone
Today is World Poetry Day and because of this, I thought we could engage in some discussion. Poetry has a unique way of making words sound beautiful, no matter the language. Some words have a natural rhythm, some rhyme effortlessly, and others just feel poetic when spoken. Here are some discussion questions that will encourage us to think about Poetry and celebrate its meaning and impact across cultures.
Discussion Questions:
What are some Danish words that sound poetic to you? Why do you find them beautiful or interesting?
- For example, Solskin (sunshine) – For me, it sounds light and happy, just like its meaning.
Share a line from a poem (in any language) that speaks to you. If possible, try translating it into Danish! How does the meaning or feeling change in translation?
- Danish Poem (by Halfdan Rasmussen): "Du og jeg og stjernerne" (You and I and the stars)
- Do you think some languages are more poetic than others? Why or why not?
- For me, I would say French or Italian is much more poetic sounding than Danish is to me, since I believe Danish has some harsh sounds. But everything is subjective, so what do you think?
