Hello everyone!
One of the most popular topics of conversation in Iceland is the weather and with good reason! It can change several times a day and often surprises even the locals. This is the perfect opportunity to practice using Icelandic weather vocabulary in a simple and fun way.
Your task:
Write 1–3 short sentences in Icelandic describing the weather where you are today in Iceland. Is it sunny, rainy, snowy, windy… or all of the above?
Here are a few helpful words and phrases to get you started:
• Það er sól – It’s sunny
• Það er skýjað – It’s cloudy
• Það rignir – It’s raining
• Það snjóar – It’s snowing
• Það er kalt / hlýtt / heitt – It’s cold / warm / hot
• Það er rok – It’s very windy
• Ég sé ekki sólina! – I can’t see the sun!
• Ég þarf úlpu og húfu í dag. – I need a jacket and hat today.
Don’t worry if your grammar isn’t perfect—this is your space to practice and learn together!
So, how’s the weather today where you are? Let’s hear it — á íslensku!
