Let’s practice one of the trickiest parts of Hungarian grammar!
In Hungarian, verbs are conjugated differently depending on whether the object is definite or indefinite. This can be confusing at first, but don’t worry—we’ll practice it together!
Your task:
Write pairs of sentences using both the indefinite and definite conjugation of the same verb.
This will help you see the difference in context.
Example:
-
Indefinite: Olvasok egy könyvet. (I’m reading a book.)
-
Definite: Olvasom a könyvet. (I’m reading the book.)
Try to create your own examples with different verbs (néz, eszik, ír, szeret, vesz, etc.).
Tips:
-
Use indefinite when the object is not specific (egy, valaki, valamit, etc.).
-
Use definite when the object is specific or known (a/az, ezt, azt, őt, etc.).
Reply to others!
-
If you see a good example, you can say "Szép munka!"
-
If you notice a small mistake, kindly correct it and explain why.
Let's begin! Write two sentences with the verb "próbál" (try) in the comments and give a verb to the next commenter!
