In this article, I’ve gathered some great books for this summer that you may want to give a try. I’ve included some lighter reads, including children’s books, for beginners, as well as some books for those who are at a more advanced level of English proficiency. So, there is something for everyone!
Let’s get started:
Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid
The story is set in 1983 and follows four siblings as they prepare for their annual summer party. As the day unfolds, secrets are revealed, and family bonds are tested. The night ends with a clash that no one saw coming, that will change their lives forever.

This is the book that I most enjoyed reading last summer! I would recommend this book to those who love a fast-paced drama with complex characters that is set in a beachside town.

After a painful life event, the author goes on a year-long journey of self-discovery. She travels through Italy, India and Bali, Indonesia. In each part of the world, she learns a valuable lesson that helps her find more pleasure, peace, and balance in life.

The book reads like a visual poem and is referred to as a ‘Modern-day Winnie the Pooh’. I recommend this book for readers who are looking to read a heartwarming and uplifting tale.

Persepolis - Marjan Satrapi
This is a deeply personal and profound memoir graphic novel. The book shares the authors' experience of growing up in Iran in a time of revolution and war. It’s a compelling story about how it feels to balance life between freedom and fear. It’s both heartbreaking and inspiring.

I recommend this book to anyone who has an open heart and mind and is curious about the human condition. With its guiding imagery, the book is suitable for almost all levels of English proficiency.
