Hello everyone!
This week we will practice Danish for everyday life in the supermarket. You’ll learn words for fruits, vegetables, quantities, and prices. We will also do a fun receipt exercise, try a short roleplay, and test our understanding with a small dialogue. Let’s get started!

supermarkedet – Shopping in Danish

This week we practice useful words and phrases for the supermarket: fruit, vegetables, quantities, and prices.

Vocabulary – Ordbog

  • æble – apple
  • banan – banana
  • gulerod – carrot
  • kartoffel – potato
  • mælk – milk
  • brød – bread
  • en kilo – a kilo
  • en pose – a bag
  • en liter – a liter
  • hvad koster det? – how much does it cost?

Fill-in-the-Blank – Receipt Practice

Imagine you bought these items. Fill in the missing words:

Kvittering - Receipt

  • 1 ______ (apple) – 5 kr.

  • 1 liter ______ (milk) – 12 kr.

  • 1 kilo ______ (potatoes) – 15 kr.

  • 1 ______ (bread) – 20 kr.

Total: ______ kr.

Roleplay – At the Supermarket

Practice this short dialogue (alone, with a classmate online, or even with a stranger in a shop!):

Du: Hej, jeg vil gerne have 1 kilo ______ og 2 ______.

Ekspedient: Ja, selvfølgelig. Det bliver 25 kroner.
Du: Mange tak!

Try to change the food words and quantities each time to challenge your understanding.

Reading/Listening Comprehension

Read (or record yourself reading) this short supermarket dialogue. Then answer the questions:

Dialog

  • Kunde: Hej! Hvor meget koster æblerne?
  • Ekspedient: De koster 20 kroner for 1 kilo.
  • Kunde: Okay, jeg vil gerne have 2 kilo æbler og 1 pose gulerødder.
  • Ekspedient: Det bliver 50 kroner i alt.

Questions

  1. Hvor meget koster 1 kilo æbler?
  2. Hvad køber kunden?
  3. Hvor meget koster det i alt?

Discussion Prompt

Skriv i kommentarfeltet: Hvad køber du ofte i supermarkedet? Hvad er din yndlingsfrugt eller dit yndlingsbrød?

I hope this exercise gave you a good insight into shopping in the danish supermarkets. If you have questions, please make sure to let me know in the comment section or in a private message. I look forward to seeing your responses!

Happy Learning!
