Hi friends,

Quick! In 10 seconds, how many anglophone countries can you list WITHOUT including the United States, Canada, and England? No peaking at other websites! Ready? Go!

How many did you list? If you managed over 7, that's pretty impressive!

In this post, we’re exploring how the English language can vary in different anglophone countries. Not only can accents have variations, but different words can be used to describe the same thing. A few common examples are: 1. loo vs. toilet vs. bathroom; 2. petrol station vs gas station. Can you think of any others?

Here's a little video about the varieties of English that focuses on pronunciation and the different ways of saying the same thing.

.

Did you notice that the above video only focuses on three countries? But as we know from the 10-second quiz above, there are so many more!

If you want to know other anglophone countries and test your ability to identify different English accents, check out this fun, timed quiz and be sure to tell us how you did in the comments below!

.

I’m curious. Are any of you in an anglophone country for your mobility program? Are you from an anglophone country and doing your mobility program in another? What differences have you noticed?

Inquisitively yours,

Iya

I have already been in UK and USA. I must say that Orlando is a wondrous city that gave me fond memories. I'd recommend Disnay land.
