Ting jeg forstod om dansk kultur, da vejret blev koldere
When the temperature drops in Denmark, something interesting happens — not just in the weather, but in the culture. As a newcomer, or a students abroad, you may start to notice small habits, traditions, and attitudes that become much more visible in the colder months.
Maybe you realised that Danes love creating hygge at home, lighting candles, or inviting a few close friends over instead of going out. Or perhaps you noticed how people still bike in the rain, how cafés suddenly fill with blankets, or how communities find warmth through little rituals — from drinking gløgg to gathering at indoor markets.
What have you seen and understood about Danish culture as the weather gets colder?
A habit that surprised you?
Something you’ve started doing yourself?
A cultural detail that only made sense once autumn arrived?
Share your experiences below — big or small, I would love to hear from you! Your insight might help someone who is just arriving in Denmark now!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Alison, OLS Community Manager - Danish
