Master Greek from Scratch: A1–A2 Greek Courses on OLS

If you’re preparing for a stay in Greece — whether for studies, work, volunteering or simply for love of the language — the OLS platform offers a smart, accessible entry into Modern Greek through its A1 and A2 courses.

Why OLS Greek courses matter

  • Free and flexible for eligible Erasmus+/mobility participants. OLS was created to support those heading abroad under European mobility schemes — helping overcome language barriers and boosting linguistic diversity across Europe.

  • Ideal for absolute beginners or near-beginners. The A1 course assumes no prior Greek knowledge, while A2 caters to learners who already understand basic phrases and want to evolve toward everyday fluency.

  • Builds practical communication skills from the ground up. Expect to learn how to introduce yourself, talk about everyday needs, describe routines, ask for directions, shop, order food, and handle simple social interactions — all essential for daily life in Greece.

What you’ll learn: from “Χάι!” to everyday Greek

At A1, you’ll:

  • Learn the Greek alphabet, pronunciation, basic grammar (present-tense verbs, personal pronouns, subject–verb agreement, articles, simple sentences)

  • Learn to introduce yourself, describe where you’re from, talk about simple personal information (family, nationality, languages you speak).

  • Master essential vocabulary and simple expressions for daily routines: greetings, shopping, ordering food or drinks, directions, short basic conversations.

As you move into A2 (Low-Intermediate), the course expands your capacity to:

  • Navigate a wider range of social situations — talk about family, describe daily activities, discuss holidays, hobbies, past and future plans, preferences, and immediate needs.

  • Understand and use frequently used expressions and sentences about everyday life, work, friends, entertainment, travel, shopping and other communicative contexts.

  • Begin reading and writing simple texts, follow basic conversations, and gain confidence to interact with native Greek speakers in everyday settings.

Structure & Method: How OLS works

  • Courses combine self-paced learning — great for busy schedules — with structured lessons and checkpoints to ensure steady progress.

  • Lessons cover grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking — so you build a rounded communicative competence, not just memorised phrases.

  • For many learners, OLS serves as a first step — after A2 you’re better prepared to tackle more advanced courses, daily life in Greece, or even academic/work environments.

Who should consider enrolling

  • Erasmus+, EVS or other mobility participants heading to Greece — to start off on the right foot before arriving.

  • Adults and young adults with little or no knowledge of Greek, who want a flexible, online-first program.

  • Anyone planning medium- or long-term stay in Greece — with the aim to integrate, socialise, study, or work — A1 and A2 give you the basic toolkit to navigate everyday life confidently.
