Give your opinion.

So, now that you've read about the pizza rivalries between New York City and Chicago and about those who love the Spanish tortilla with or without onions; tell us about a food rivalry from your country or one you know about. Maybe you've been a taste tester and had to give your opinion on a particular cuisine.

Have you already sunk your teeth into a NY or Chicago pizza and wish to weigh in? Where are our Spanish friends on the subject of the tortilla-onion debate? Share pictures, links or videos, too so we can drool. :D

Let's feast!
Iya

¡Hola a todos/as! Greetings from the Spanish community :-) I have enjoyed the article, since I love gastronomic controversies. I would like to say a couple of things:

1: New York pizza VS Chicago pizza? But... are they really pizza? HAHAHA I'm kidding. I live in Italy since a long time and I have been successfully indoctrinated. To be honest, I haven't eaten any of the two, but I would like to try the Chicago one, as it is a far cry from what I am used to. Are there any places in Europe where I can find it? I am always down for a gastronomic trip.

2: Culinary rivalries: In Spain, as you said, there is an ongoing old debate about whether to add onion or not to the Tortilla de patatas, a controversy that can keep people entertained for hours. Purists insist that a true tortilla is pure egg and potatoes, while onion advocates claim that it enhances the flavour of the dish. Personally? I am a hard pro onion-er. In the Spanish community, we have posted a few articles in English about traditional eats Spaniards go crazy about. If anyone is interested, check them out :-)

Felices fiestas a todos/as ♡

Hahahaha!! I was waiting for someone to question whether it's really pizza if it's not in Italy! hahaha! Personally, I don't know if Chicago-style pizza can be found in Europe. But maybe someone in our community knows. If so, tell us! I have to say, back in the day, I loved eating Chicago-style for the novelty of it. Yes, if done right, it's totally delicious. But, as a born and bred Brooklyn girl, NYC pizza (again, if done right); is near and dear to my heart. It's been ages since I've had either, so I don't know if the quality has changed. And now that I can't eat gluten anymore, I'll just have to live vicariously through you all. haha!

As for being a hardcore onion lover, I gotta say, Bernat... I dig the tortillas with onions more than without. Onions bring flavor! Especially if sauteed. I guess I'm a cebollista. Yours looks delicious. The browner part looks like it has a nice crunch. Tell me it does!

Hey, I've got a question... I just read your post about Spanish eats (and by the way, I totally need to go back to Spain and find all those foods!) - So, if food is eaten at room temperature, that makes it a tapa?? If it's warm or hot, it's considered lunch or dinner? What makes a tapa a tapa, do you know what I mean?

Curiously,
Iya

Thank you for your kind words :-) Also, long live the onions, HAHAHA.

In short, a tapa is a small portion of food that can be served either warm or at room temperature. While there are no specific rules, it is more common to eat tapas before or during dinner than at lunchtime. To be honest, I haven't eaten them for a long time. Is there anyone among my compatriots who would like to talk a bit about tapas? I am no expert.

Hahaha! Agreed! Long live the onions! XD

Hmm... thanks for the answer about tapas. I also look forward to what your compatriots have to share. :)

A tapa is like a little meal that people usually eat for lunch. When you go to a restaurant to eat them you eat like 20 of these because is the point. Eat a little beat of each different typical spanish foods

Thanks, Paula!

What are some tapas that you recommend? Do you have any favorites?

When I was in Basque Country, I tried a ton of pintxos, so the next time I go back to Spain, I want to explore more tapas.

Eeeee! The food in Spain is so delicious! There's so much to discover from the different regions. Hmmm... I wonder where I should go next... :D

If you have been in Basque Country and you try the tapas is probably you try queso de cabra con cebolla carmelizada. It's goat's cheese with onion cooked with candy. The contrast of the taste is the best.

Hmmm… I don’t know that one, but it sounds intriguing! I love when flavors contrast. I will look for it the next time I’m there. Thank you!

Hello! I enjoy this forum post since there's a discussion about pizza! Anyway, I think that here the discussion is about two "fake" pizzas. XD I'm kidding (or maybe not)!
Sincerely, I haven't tryed any of them, so I don't know which is the best. I would like to taste them, in particular the Chicago pizza because it is different from what I am used to.
In any case, I am quite sure that the Neapolitan pizza beats both. :)

Hahaha!! Fake pizzas!?!? Uh ohhhh! Don't say that to either side of the rivalry! (Just kidding!)

It would be so awesome if you tasted them and gave us your opinion since you love Neapolitan pizza so much. I have a feeling you would not be shy with your words. XD

And you would give us a very detailed assessment.

Now that we're so deeply in this topic, I wonder who brought pizza to the US in the first place. Of course, it was Italians; but now I wonder who opened the very first pizzeria because thanks to this person, the love of pizza spread throughout the United States.

Hmm... so many things to wonder...

Anyway, when are you booking your flight to the US? We're waiting for the results of your taste tests! :D

Heyy Iya, I always prefer tortilla without onion but both are pretty good. Other debate in Spain is paella with seafood or without. I honestly prefer with sea food, what do you think guys?? :)

Woah! I didn't know there were non-seafood paellas! Now I must go on a hunt to find these other kinds of paella.:D

Hiiii,
I’m Italian so I felt called upon since pizza was mentioned… In fact the real pizza is Italian !!!!!!! (ahhaha)
Personally, I don’t think that the Chicago pizza can be called such, I can’t judge the taste because I’ve never tried it but the description and the photo make me believe that it’s definitely not a pizza, ahahaha. At least the New York one is more similar to the Italian one… For this reason I think the New York pizza is better since it’s more similar to the original.
However, I hope I will go to NYC and Chicago in the future so I can try their pizzas and give an opinion based on experience!
Thanks for reading!!!
Have a great day!
