Hello Hello,
No matter how many tests you take, videos you watch, or people you talk to, reading is an important part of the learning process!
Reading is an amazing way to improve your language skills. By doing lots of reading, you’re exposing yourself to new vocabulary, which helps you gain a better understanding of how the language works.
Here are some important tips to note when you’re reading in a foreign language:
- It’s okay if you don’t understand everything. Don’t give up, try to understand the context and look up any keywords on Google or the dictionary.
- Write down new words and phrases! Is an amazing way to memorize and learn new things.
- Enjoy it! Read something that doesn't feel like you are working, something that you enjoy reading and that can become a hobby :)
Do you need ideas on how to start reading in Portuguese? Here are a few book ideas that might be interesting to start with! Some of them were written by Portuguese authors others have been translated into Portuguese.
- “A Lua de Joana” by Maria Teresa Maia Gonzalez (Portuguese author)
- “Dois Irmãos” by Milton Hatoum
- “O Principezinho” by Antoine de Saint-Exupé
- “Os Poemas Possíveis” by Fernando Pessoa (Portuguese author)
- “O Rapaz ao Fundo da Sala” by Onjali Q. Raúf
- “O Conto da Ilha Desconhecida” by José Saramago (Portuguese author)
Now you have some good ideas of what to do during this vacation on rainy days! I hope to hear from you with feedback about some of these books and maybe in the future create a “Book Club” where we can discuss them :)
See you soon!
