3 Hungarian bands and singers you need to know if you’re learning Hungarian!

Learning a new language is always a challenge, especially if you start with such a unique one as Hungarian! Here in the Hungarian Community, we give you the tools to discover the Hungarian language through culture, history, music and events.

Let’s start with the music! In this article, we introduce you to some famous Hungarian bands, who are using traditional Hungarian instruments, and also in their lyrics, you can learn beautiful new words and sentences in Hungarian.

 

Bagossy Brothers Company

The band was founded in May 2013 in Gyergyószentmiklós, Transylvania with the help of musicians who have been playing together for several years. The band's name was inspired by the family names of the Bagossy brothers (Norbert Bagossy and László Bagossy). In ten years they became one of Hungary’s most popular bands, which plays sold-out concerts all over the country. They are famous for their modern and also traditional sound, for their energetic, audience-oriented concerts, and wonderful, poetric lyrics. The band will celebrate the important anniversary as the first Hungarian performer at the MVM Dome on March 11, 2023.

  

Palya Bea

Bea Palya is a Hungarian folk and world music singer who is also very popular in Hungary. In her early years she was influenced by Hungarian folk songs, Bulgarian, Jewish and Gypsy music, following her multiple ethnic roots. Side by side with her musical career, she developed a career in the film industry. She sang the title song for the Hungarian film Portugal (2000). As an amateur actress, Palya appeared in a supporting role in many movies. Her concerts are always full of joy, energy. Her lyrics are about emotions, freedom, she is using the music as a therapy.

  

HoneyBeast

Honeybeast is hard to describe by only one genre. They like all types of music like alternative rock, pop and Jazz. Their name was was originally Honey Bee and they changed to Honeybeast before the first album came out. Their most well known song „Legnagyobb hős" is translated „The biggest hero” is about a pair getting to know each other falling in love and getting married. The song describes all the doubts and frustrations behind the whole story. This is not completely a happy song, but it does have happy parts though.
