Visit Varna – The Sea Capital of Bulgaria

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria, located along the Black Sea coast and Lake Varna. With its rich history, stunning beaches, and vibrant cultural scene, Varna attracts visitors from all over the world, coming to see “the sea capital of Bulgaria”. 

Odessos, the old name of Varna, and its surroundings are marked with the signs of different eras that the city went through. The city’s unique continuity of traditions builds the cultural layers of the modern city today. 

It is not a surprise that the city is most famous for its beautiful long beaches with sparkling soft sand. The most popular beaches are located in the northern part of the city, including the Golden Sands beach.

Aside from its beaches, Varna is home to many cultural and historical sites. The city has museums, art galleries, and ancient ruins. The Archaeological Museum has artifacts from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. Other must-see attractions are Euxinograd Palace, the Roman Baths, Dormition of the mother of God Cathedral, Dolphinarium, The Sea Grden, and the Palace of Culture and Sports. 

Varna hosts several annual festivals and events. The International Ballet Competition, the Varna Summer International Music Festival, and the Love is Folly International Film Festival are just a few of the events, part of the cultural calendar of the city. 

Near Varna is the Stone Forest, a unique natural phenomenon featuring stone formations. In the northeastern suburbs is the Aladzha Monastery – a cave monastery complex part of a protected natural area.

Varna is a great city for students. 

It has a number of higher education institutions, including University of Economics, Varna Free University, Medical University, Technical University, all of them offering a wide range of degree programs in various fields.
