Welcome
This course introduces key concepts and principles of Diversity and Inclusion, offering participants the opportunity to reflect on their relevance and application within the EU Civil Protection / Disaster Management working environment.
A self-reflection thread runs through the design of this e-course, as self-awareness is a key pillar when developing inclusive mindsets and practices.
Learning outcomes
- Increase knowledge and understanding of key concepts of D&I in the context of the EU
- Raise awareness about the diversity within EU civil protection/disaster management working environment
- Explore personal connection to D&I
- Examine existing professional constraints in civil protection/disaster management in relation to applying D&I principles and actions
- Gain deeper understanding of EU’s D&I policies and their implementation
- Explore and understand the interface between D&I and working environment
- Be able to affect positive change by speaking out in an empathic and inclusive way, and act as a role model for inclusion in civil protection/disaster management working environment
- Deepen the ability to practise self-awareness
- Recognise own habits and reflexes in explicit/implicit bias situations
- Examine and reflect on own thinking, mental habits and behavioural patterns that relate to inclusive behaviours and actions
- Examine and reflect on individual approach to difference
- Be able to communicate respectfully and inquire into other people’s realities and experiences
- Show empathy about realities and experiences of Others
- Examine potential barriers to inclusion
- Recognize potential discriminatory practices
- Explore strategies to mitigate discriminatory practices
