This e-Capsule focuses on the EU-wide rules on cross-border divorce and legal separation. It presents a comprehensive overview of the scope and limitations of key European Union (EU) legal instruments, including Regulation (EU) 1259/2010 (Rome III Regulation) on the applicable law, and Regulation (EU) 2019/1111 (Brussels II ter Regulation) concerning jurisdiction and recognition of decisions. It provides a practical understanding of how these regulations are applied. 

Target audience

This e-Capsule is designed to provide justice professionals, particularly judges, prosecutors, lawyers and notaries, with a thorough understanding of the practical application of EU legal instruments on divorce and legal separation.
