Producing dashboards in Tableau EEA training (2025)

This introductory workshop is designed to give new users a strong foundation in creating clear, consistent dashboards using Tableau. The focus is on building essential skills for dashboard design.

Participants will receive support materials and have access to post-training support channels to assist in applying new skills. The training is designed to smoothly transition from foundational theory to practical application, ensuring that participants understand and can effectively implement dashboard creation techniques in their work, thereby enhancing the EEA's data visualization efforts.

Objective: Introduce the foundational concepts of dashboard creation, focusing on the importance of clear communication through data visualization. This module ensures that participants have a solid understanding in the basics of dashboard design.

Components: It covers the fundamental principles of dashboard creation and basic guidelines for layout and design. The focus is on the importance of consistency and clarity in visual communication.

Objective: Provide an introduction to Tableau and demonstrate how to create a basic dashboard. This session bridges the gap between theory and practice, helping participants understand the tools and functions of Tableau.

Components:A step-by-step guide to creating a simple dashboard using Tableau, including layout basics, selecting chart types, maps and integrating filters. Participants will observe the creation of dashboards with sample data, focusing on clarity and ease of use. Key Tableau concepts such as dimensions, measures, and calculated fields will be briefly introduced in a beginner-friendly manner.

Objective: Guide participants through the process of applying basic design principles to create clear and effective dashboards, using real data in a practical context.

Components: Participants will observe the creation of beginner-level dashboards using sample data sets, with a focus on applying EEA’s visual guidelines. Key design elements such as color schemes, fonts, and layouts will be explored to enhance usability and visual appeal. Participants will follow along and see how these principles are applied in Tableau. This module may include a brief checklist of EEA’s dashboard design do’s and don’ts.

Objective: Provide a platform for reflection and feedback, which is essential for continuous improvement and learning validation.

Components: Participants will engage in a review of the concepts learned, discuss any challenges encountered during the workshop, and participate in a Q&A session to clarify doubts and deepen understanding. This will help solidify the learning and provide insights into applying dashboard creation principles in real-world scenarios. Participants will also be encouraged to share what kind of dashboards they might create in their roles, fostering connection to their practical work.A feedback survey will be circulated amongst participants.
