This e-Capsule focuses on the rights of the child as enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (EU) (the Charter), including the right to care, to express their views freely, and consideration of the best interests of the child. It uses practical applications and case studies to illustrate how the Charter serves as a fundamental framework for reviewing and interpreting EU and national legal instruments in relation to the rights of the child. 

Target audience

This e-Capsule is designed to provide justice professionals, particularly judges, prosecutors, court staff and lawyers, with a comprehensive understanding of the Charter provisions concerning the rights of the child.  

Learning objectives

By the end of this e-Capsule you should be able to:   
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Article 24 of the Charter on the rights of the child.    
  • Critically analyse the relevant Charter provisions through case studies.
