Water Festival, which takes place in Athens throughout June, will allow you to experience a cultural event and practice your Greek with locals. Many locals with no age limit attend this Festival, as it takes place in a famous and unique neighbourhood in Athens. Below are some information regarding the history of the Festival and how you can get tickets.

Since its inception in 2016, Release Athens has grown to become one of the most major summer music events in Athens and around Greece, taking place mostly at Plateia Nerou, a magnificent open-air venue situated by the sea just minutes from downtown Athens.

With extroversion and optimism as its key mottos, Release Athens revitalized the local entertainment industry, believing in the liberating power of music - after all, that is where the event got its name.

The Nerou square opens its doors after 35 months of stillness. During the 12 days of Release Athens 2022, we listened to over 100 hours of music and watched some of the best concerts we've ever seen, including Nick Cave's thrilling performance with the Bad Seeds, Pet Shop Boys with their unmistakable greatest hits setlist, top rock stars Iggy Pop and Liam Gallagher, but also metal titans Manowar, Judas Priest, and of course Slipknot, the absolute highlight of this year.

Without bounds or boundaries, Release Athens attempts to satisfy as many musical styles as possible. Our objective is to provide the Greek - and other audiences - with the opportunity to experience high-quality shows in a safe and comfortable environment, producing one-of-a-kind musical moments that will last a lifetime.

Since the first day of its existence, it has presented a multitude of outstanding artists:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Slipknot, Liam Gallagher, Pet Shop Boys, London Grammar, Bauhaus, Parov Stelar, Judas Priest, Sabaton, Iggy Pop, New Order, Alice in Chains, Cypress Hill, Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, Hozier, Manowar, Disturbed, Clutch, Jamiroquai, Richard Ashcroft, Thievery Corporation, Parov Stelar, Royksopp, Moderat, Archive, Pj Harvey, Beirut, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Fontaines D.C., Hooverphonic, Blind Guardian, Epica, Jinjer, Dead Daisies, Sleaford Mods, Anthrax, James, Johnny Marr, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Fu Manchu, Third World, Cigarettes After Sex are some of the acts who have graced the festival with their presence so far, and there is much more to come/ a lot great names and groundbreaking shows are about to follow.
