Dear learners,
Let's take a trip and cross the sea to discover the Estonian islands through this week's blog post titled Eriline saarte kultuur - special island culture in Estonia.
There's so many different communities and special historical sights to visit.
Here's some trivia for you that you can share with your friends to impress them:
During winter, you can drive across the ice from the mainland to the islands. There are 6 official ice roads that are a total of 80 km long. When you're getting your driver's license in Estonia, then you learn the rules of crossing ice roads.
You are only allowed to drive on the ice road when it's light outside. Since winter days are very short in Estonia, you might be only able to drive there until 4 or 5 pm. You're also not allowed to wear your seatbelt. Can you guess why? Let us know in the comments!
This is just one of the interesting phenomena of the island culture in Estonia.
Let us know if you know any more, or if there's anything in particular that surprises you about the Estonian islands.
Happy reading,
