Hey OLS adventurous people!
Today we are starting a new series on the Living Abroad forum - Hidden gems of Romania. To break the ice, today I will present you one of my favorite destinations in Romania: Cazanele Dunãrii.
Cazanele Dunării, also known as the Iron Gates Natural Park, is a breathtaking natural wonder that stretches along the Danube River.
How to get there
I think the best and prettiest way is by train! The train ride which connects Orșova to Drobeta Turnu Severin has a great view over the banks of the Danube. Orșova is located approximately 22 km east of the Iron Gates Natural Park.
What to do
Boat cruise: one of the best ways to experience Cazanele Dunării is by taking a boat cruise along the Danube River. Many tours have local guides who will share some fascinating stories about the Decebal statue and the history of the place.
Eat! Indulge in the local Romanian cuisine and try traditional dishes like sarmale (cabbage rolls), mici (grilled meat), and papanasi (fried pastry with sour cream and gem).
Adventure activities: for adrenaline enthusiasts, Cazanele Dunării offers opportunities for kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking. Personally, I also love to sunbath and wonder around.
