10 Basic Sentences to Learn For Less Worries When in Bulgaria

Hey, community!

In big cities like Sofia, a lot of people do speak English, but mainly the younger ones. In smaller cities, it might be more challenging to find anyone who will be able to communicate with you.

No matter your Bulgarian Language level, I believe it is essential for your better experience here to learn some basic local sentences. Because… you never know in what situation you might find yourself.

I present to you some basic Bulgarian sentences to practice:


1.    Hello! How are you?

This    Здравейте! Как сте? (Zdraveyte! Kak ste?)

2.    Can you help me with directions?

This    Можете ли да ми помогнете с посоката? (Mozhete li da mi pomognete s posokata?)

3.    I would like to order a [dish/drink].

This    Искам да поръчам [ястие/напитка]. (Iskam da poracham [yastie/napitka].)

4.    Where is the nearest pharmacy?

This    Къде е най-близката аптека? (Kade e nay-blizkata apteka?)

5.    What time does the [attraction/place] open/close?

This    Кога отваря/затваря [забележителност/място]? (Koga otvarya/zatvarya [zabelezhitelnost/myasto]?)

6.    I need a taxi.

This    Имам нужда от такси. (Imam nuzhda ot taksi.)

7.    Can you recommend a good restaurant around here?

This    Можете ли да препоръчате хубав ресторант тук? (Mozhete li da preporachate hubav restorant tuk?)

8.    How much is the ticket to [destination]?

This   Колко струва билетът до [дестинация]? (Kolko struva biletat do [destinatsiya]?)

9.    Do you speak English?

This    Говорите ли английски? (Govorite li angliyski?)

10.    Thank you for your help.

This    Благодаря ви за помощта. (Blagodarya vi za pomoshtta.)
