Hello, dear students!
Today we will learn how to have a conversation in Romanian when going for a coffee or eating in a restaurant. We will touch base with the basic vocabulary, some conversation starters, and how to order. Ready? Let’s go!
The basic vocabulary
- restaurant = restaurant
- waiter = chelner
- breakfast = mic-dejun
- lunch = prânz
- dinner = cina
- main course = fel principal
- secondary course = fel secundar
- starter = aperitiv
- check = nota de plata
- soup = ciorba/ supa
- dessert = desert
- ice = gheata
- cutlery = tacâmuri
Conversation in a cafe
“Hello! Can I please order?” Bună ziua! Pot comanda?
“Yes, please! What would you like?” Sigur! Ce doriți?
“I’d like a coffee with milk and a chocolate cake, please. I’d like the coffee to go.” As dori o cafea cu lapte si o prăjitură cu ciocolata, va rog. Aș dori cafeaua la pachet.
“Of course. Anything else?” Sigur. Altceva?
“That’s it! Thank you! Can I pay by card, please? Atât! Mulțumesc! Pot plăti cu cardul, va rog?
“Yes. Your total will be 25 lei.” Da. Totalul dumneavoastră este de 25 lei.
“Thank you! Have a nice day!” Mulțumesc! O zi buna!
“You too!” Si dumneavoastră!
Conversation in a restaurant
“Good evening! I have a reservation for a table for two. My name is Roxana” Bună seara! Am o rezervare pentru o masa de doua persoane. Numele meu este Roxana.
“Good evening! Sure, follow me.” Bună seara! Desigur, veniți după mine.
“What would you like to order?” Ce ați dori să comandați?
“What is your recommendations?” Ce îmi recomandați?
“The menu of the day is very delicious! It’s pumpkin soup, chicken with rice and for dessert we have an exquisite carrot cake.” Meniul zilei este delicious! Avem supa de dovleac, pui cu orez, iar ca desert o prăjitură delicioasa cu morcovi.
“It sounds lovely, I will take that. Thank you!” Sună minunat, asta o sa iau. Mulțumesc!
“Ați dori ceva de băut?” Would you like something to drink?
“Sure, I would like a water and a freshly squeezed orange juice.” Da, as dori o apa si un suc natural de portocale.
