Hello and welcome to the second month of our #OLSBookClub!

Last month, we dived into the world of George Călinescu, got to know Otilia's Riddle, and questioned what would have happened if we took different decisions in our lives, thanks to The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.

So, first, let's discuss The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. And yes, it's a book club, so I'd be thrilled to hear your thoughts in the comments (psst - if we get enough comments and interest, we might transform this into real monthly webinars).

What struck me most about this book is its unique premise. The idea of a library that exists between life and death, where one can explore alternate realities based on different life choices, is incredibly intriguing. How did you all feel about this fantastical concept? What was the first idea that came to mind—the first aspect of your life that you would have done differently?

I really loved how Matt Haig explored the theme of the multiverse and the endless possibilities that exist within it. It left me questioning a lot about my life choices, regret, and the pursuit of happiness. What about you?

And as for Enigma Otiliei...

First off, let's discuss the enigmatic Otilia herself. What are your thoughts on her character? Personally, I found her complexities intriguing, from her ambitions to her vulnerabilities. And her relationships with other characters like Felix and Pascalopol are quite fascinating, don't you think?

Now, let's talk about the themes of love and betrayal. The romantic entanglements and betrayals woven throughout the story add layers of drama and suspense. Did any particular twists or turns catch you by surprise? How do you think these themes contribute to the overall narrative?

BOOKS FOR MARCH

  • Maitreyi, by Mircea Eliade
  • The Why Café, by John Strelecky (this is very short, and one of my favorites!)

Happy reading!
