Kallid õppijad, dear community,
The 14th of March marks emakeelepäev or Mother Tongue Day in Estonia!
The Estonian government has collected all the data and has discovered that 243 different mother tongues are spoken in Estonia. The number has doubled since the year 2000! The amount of people who have two mother tongues has also increased over time.
Here are some fun ways to celebrate:
Have a look at the dedicated blog post about Mother Tongue Day on the OLS Estonian blog here.
Get to know some more Estonian authors and their works, for example:
Ene Mihkelson ("Ahasveeruse uni")
Viivi Luik ("Varjuteater")
Piret Raud ("Nimepanija" collection of stories)

I hope you had a fun day and could learn some new Estonian words or phrases!
