Basque Country Chronicle Series
It’s normal to feel lonely in a new country. But don’t worry! You can use language practice as a way to make friends. I certainly did while in Bilbao and I had the time of my life!
If your schedule permits it, join lots of language exchange meet-up group in your area. You can always trim back your involvement later; but in the beginning, these meet-up groups are a great way to be welcomed and integrated into your new city by local ex-pats and native residents.
Check out the local universities and ESN chapters because they often post or host fun events for other language learners to get to know each other in the area.
Have you made friends by joining local groups? If so, tell us about it. If you haven’t, but you’re looking for ideas; put your location and hobbies or interests in the thread below and someone may reach out to you!
Happy friend-making!
Iya
