Basque Country Chronicles

Hi fellow travellers,

I wrote about the adventures I had when I went to Spain with the intention of improving my Spanish, but then discovered the vast richness and beauty of the Basque language, people, and country. Though Basque isn’t the predominant language, exploring it opened me to wonderful experiences.

So, now I wonder about you. Some of you are in mobility programs in which your target language is English, but it may not be the language of your host country.

Do you think it’s important to learn the language of your host country even if it’s not the target language of your mobility program?

Are you learning the local language anyway? How has it impacted your experience in your host country? Do you have any favorite new words or expressions so far?

Curiously yours,

Iya
