¡HOLA, COMUNIDAD!

September is just around the corner, and many of you will soon begin a mobility programme in Spain. I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time and learn a lot from the experience. When you arrive in Spain, it’s important to know at least the basics of the country’s languages, not only to communicate effectively, but also to show respect for the local people.

English is a global language and is widely understood in Spain, but learning some basic Spanish and/or another language spoken in the country will make daily life easier and put a big smile on the faces of the locals.

With this in mind, I encourage you to explore the discussion topics below, where you’ll find basic greetings in Castilian (Spanish), Catalan, Galician, Basque, and Aranese. Remember that Spain is a multilingual country, and its regional languages play an important role in both daily life and people’s identities.

If you have questions about the languages or would like to share your thoughts, just click Reply in the comments section of any of the greeting posts linked above. I’ll be happy to chat with you.

¡HASTA LUEGO Y QUE VIVAN LAS LENGUAS DE ESPAÑA! :-)
