Hello Everyone

This week, I thought we should practice vocabulary for biking. This is ultimately, the main and best way to transport yourself around cities in Denmark, whether it is a sunny or raining day outside.  So let's get started!

Vocabulary – Nye ord

  • en cykelhjelm = a bike helmet

  • en cykelsti = a bike lane/path

  • at punktere = to get a flat tire

Practice saying them out loud! Can you make a sentence with each word?

Reading exercise: Louise cykler til stranden

Læs den korte tekst og svar på spørgsmålene. / Read the short text and answer the questions.

"Det er sommer, og Louise cykler til stranden. Hun tager sin cykelhjelm på og kører på cykelstien sammen med andre. På vejen får hun et problem: hendes cykel punkterer! Hun bliver lidt træt, men heldigvis er stranden tæt på. Hun går det sidste stykke og møder sine venner der."

Questions – Spørgsmål

  1. Hvor cykler Louise hen?

  1. Hvad tager hun på hovedet?

  1. Hvad sker der med hendes cykel?

  1. Hvem møder hun på stranden?

(Please answer in short sentences in Danish. Example: “Hun cykler til stranden.”)

Grammar Practice – “skal” + infinitiv (future)

Complete the sentences with skal + verb:

  1. I morgen _______ jeg cykle til skole.

  1. På lørdag _______ vi købe en ny cykel.

  1. Næste uge _______ Louise besøge sine venner.

Culture Corner

In Denmark, biking is a part of daily life. Many people bike to school, work, or even the supermarket — even in the rain! Bike lanes are everywhere, and it’s common (and required) to wear a helmet.

Discussion prompt: How do people travel in your country? Do many people use bikes?

I look forward to seeing your responses in the comment section below or in a private message to me, so we can go through your answers. If you prefer to do the exercises that I post in this forum, in your own notebook, that is also completely fine! If that is the case, you can just reply to the exercise with a "done", then I know that you participated :)
