Danish Food Culture in Autumn – Dansk madkultur om efteråret

Hej allesammen,

Autumn in Denmark means hygge, warm soups, and sweet æblekage (apple cake)!
When the weather gets colder, many Danes enjoy græskarsuppe (pumpkin soup), kartoffelmos (mashed potatoes), flæskesteg (roast pork), and of course hot kakao (cocoa).
It’s a cozy time of year when mad (food) and hygge go hand in hand – often with candles, blankets, and good friends around the table.

Have you tried any Danish efterårsretter (autumn dishes) yet?
Maybe you’ve cooked something yourself or found a favorite café with a warm autumn meal.
Danish food culture can be simple but full of flavor and comfort – often reminding people of home-cooked meals.

Discussion prompts:

  • What Danish autumn foods have you tried so far?
  • Is there a dish from your home country that feels similar to something Danish?
  • What do you think about Danish food – too heavy, too mild, or just right?
  • Do you have a favorite place to eat or buy efterårsmad (autumn food) in Denmark?

Please answer one of the discussion prompts in the reply section. I hope to hear your thoughts on autumn in Denmark and how the food culture is treating you!
