¡Hola a todos/as! We are delighted to share with you our new blog post in Spanish: "La isla que habla silbando." In this article, we travel to La Gomera, which is one of the eight islands that make up the Canarian archipelago. For centuries, if not thousands of years, local Gomerans have been communicating in a very peculiar but functional way: whistling through the ravines and valleys of the area.
Are you curious about it? Do you want to practise your reading skills in Spanish as well? Don’t miss the blog post! Once again, we have inserted audio files at the bottom of each section, which you can listen to while reading. It helps a lot! I hope you like my voice and my distinctive Catalan accent :-)
Before getting yourself comfortable and beginning your journey across La Gomera, we encourage you to memorise the following vocabulary words, as they are vital to fully understand the article:
- Acantilado: cliff
- Agricultores/as: farmers
- Barranco: ravine
- Camino empinado: steep road
- Carretera serpenteante: winding road
- Gritar: shout
- Pastores/as: shepards
- Silbar: whistle
- Silbador/a: whistler
New location for the blog posts
The community’s articles are now situated under the forums in the “Resources” section. We don’t really understand why, but when you click on any of the links, you get an HTML file which is downloaded to your computer. While our tech team corrects this technical issue, we advise you to open the blog posts in a new tab and enjoy them with all their multimedia attributes. Sorry for that!
The community is expanding
In the last few days, the Spanish Leaning Community and Resources has surpassed 4,000 members. We are growing every day! We warmly welcome all newcomers and encourage all of you to participate in the forums :-)
Happy reading everyone!
¡Buena lectura a todos/as!
