Learning a new language often starts with vocabulary lists and grammar rules. Useful, ofcourse, but that’s only the beginning!
A language carries a culture with it. It reflects how people think, what they value, how they joke, complain, celebrate, and connect with one another. Some words exist because a culture needed them. Some expressions only make sense if you understand the shared history behind them. And some jokes… simply don’t survive translation.
To give you a bit more of an understanding of the Dutch culture we have a blog page! Here, you’ll find blogs like:
- Dutch Loan Words in Indonesian; a legacy of a colonial past
- What Our Sayings Reveal About the Dutch
- Historical Dutch Dishes You (Probably) Don’t Know About
As this platform is to help guide you, we would love your input! What would you love to read about next on our blog? No wrong answers, so shoot!
