Information management can be defined as: • The systematic process for collection, collation, storage, processing, verification and analysis of data and information from one or more sources, and • The dissemination of relevant data and information to stakeholders, to support effective and timely humanitarian and/or civil protection actions.

Target audience

Union Civil Protection community and people interested in Information Management during European Civil Protection emergencies.

Learning objectives

After this online course, you should be able to:

list the five steps in the information management flow;
define primary and secondary data and list examples of typical information inputs;
outline methods for validating data;
recognise the importance of a well-structured system for organising and storing information;
recognise how various audiences need different types of information for decision-making;
list various information products a EUCPT mission may have to produce; and
describe different channels for dissemination of information.
