The principal objective is to apply DG ECHO's localisation approach by promoting equitable partnerships, strengthening local leadership, and identifying practical actions that support organisational change in humanitarian settings. To achieve this, the course is organised into three modules. The first module explores what localisation is, where the concept comes from, and why it is important. The second module examines DG ECHO's Guidance Note on promoting equitable partnerships, while the third module focuses on how localisation applies to individuals and their organisations.

This course is designed for humanitarian workers interested in promoting equitable partnerships with local responders in humanitarian settings. It is particularly relevant for staff working for DG ECHO Certified Partners, staff working for local and national actors partnering with DG ECHO-certified organisations, and non-specialists who would like to build a basic understanding of localisation and equitable partnerships. The course introduces key concepts in a practical and accessible way and does not require prior specialist knowledge.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to explain the concept and evolution of localisation, along with the importance of equitable partnerships in humanitarian action. They will also describe DG ECHO's localisation approach and the key principles outlined in its Guidance Note on Promoting Equitable Partnerships with Local Responders. Additionally, participants will identify practical actions to strengthen localisation and support local leadership within humanitarian organisations, while reflecting on how localisation influences individual, organisational, and operational practices to spot opportunities for improvement.
