Hi friends!

It's the Summer Solstice today! (If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, that is!)

There are many traditions all over the world that welcome the official start of Summer. For example, in the United Kingdom, people come from all over the world to celebrate this astronomical event at Stonehenge. People have been celebrating at Stonehenge for at least 5000 years!

If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, like in South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand, today you get to celebrate the Winter Solstice!

Read more from National Geographic to discover other traditions and to see a nifty video about what happens to our planet during the Solstice.

What are your culture's solstice traditions or celebrations? Tell us by clicking this link to the Living Abroad Forum.
