Europeans rank climate change as one of the most serious problems facing the world today. Education and training must respond to this crisis and equip learners of all ages with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for a greener and more sustainable future. Throughout this self-paced course, you will look at how sustainability can become an integral part of school education from innovative pedagogical practices in the classroom, learning with nature, teacher education and sustainable learning infrastructure.You will hear from experts in the field, learn about sustainability education projects in action, explore programmes from across Europe and reflect on your own context.

Público objetivo

This course is primarily designed for education professionals seeking to integrate sustainability into school settings. It benefits school-level educators, including teachers, school leaders, and sustainability coordinators, striving to embed sustainable practices in schools. Teacher educators working with pre-service and in-service teachers will also find it valuable. The course further caters to public authorities at national, regional, and local levels, supporting policy development for sustainability in school education. Furthermore, it's relevant for NGOs and organisations active in sustainability education, especially those partnering with schools to amplify programme outreach.

Objetivos de aprendizaje

By the end of the course learners should be able to:
  • Identify the main challenges, obstacles and opportunities related to sustainability in school education.
  • Understand the various dimensions of a whole-school approach to sustainability and practical strategies for integrating sustainability into their school settings.
  • Be familiar with the GreenComp sustainability competences framework and how it might be used.
  • Understand how different policy interventions support the integration of sustainability into school education.
  • Be familiar with the tools, resources, and programmes available to support sustainability in schools in the EU.
