In Bulgarian, verb conjugation depends on the tense (when the action takes place), the person (who is performing the action), and the number (whether the subject is singular or plural). Bulgarian verbs change their form to match the subject of the sentence, and each tense has its own conjugation pattern.

There are three main tenses in Bulgarian:

  1. Present tense (Сегашно време) – Used for actions happening now or regularly.
  2. Past tense (Минало време) – Used for actions completed in the past.
  3. Future tense (Бъдеще време) – Used for actions that will happen in the future.

The verb conjugates (changes) according to the subject (who is performing the action), with different endings for each person (I, you, he/she/it, we, you plural, they).

Example with the verb "пиша" (to write)

Here’s how "пиша" is conjugated in different tenses for different persons:

Present Tense (Сегашно време):

  • Аз пиша (I write)
  • Ти пишеш (You write)
  • Той/Тя пише (He/She writes)
  • Ние пишем (We write)
  • Вие пишете (You write - plural)
  • Те пишат (They write)

Past Simple Tense (Минало свършено време):

  • Аз писах (I wrote)
  • Ти писа (You wrote)
  • Той/Тя писа (He/She wrote)
  • Ние писахме (We wrote)
  • Вие писахте (You wrote - plural)
  • Те писаха (They wrote)

Future Tense (Бъдеще време):

  • Аз ще пиша (I will write)
  • Ти ще пишеш (You will write)
  • Той/Тя ще пише (He/She will write)
  • Ние ще пишем (We will write)
  • Вие ще пишете (You will write - plural)
  • Те ще пишат (They will write)
